e.ASDFFuel Type    Unit Cost (Typical U.S., 2025)    Energy Unit    Comments
Electric (Grid)    $0.12–$0.20 per kWh    kWh    Clean, low maintenance; cost depends on electricity rates
Propane (LPG)    $2.50–$4.00 per gallon    gallon    Popular for indoor use; rental or exchange tanks

1. Propane (LPG) Forklifts

✔ Most common in mid-size warehouses
✔ Tanks are often exchange-based (you swap empty tanks for full ones)

Fuel consumption:

Roughly 0.6–1.0 gallon per hour of operation

Typical cost examples:

At $3.00/gal → $1.80–$3.00 per hour

At $3.50/gal → $2.10–$3.50 per hour

Annual cost (2,000 hours/year):

$3,600–$7,000

2. Electric Forklifts

Electric forklifts don’t have “fuel” in the traditional sense, but you pay for electricity and battery charging infrastructure.

Typical energy use:

~10–20 kWh per shift (varies with truck size and duty cycle)

Cost per shift (15 kWh at $0.15/kWh):

15 kWh × $0.15 = $2.25 per shift

Annual electricity cost (2,000 shifts):

~$4,500

Key points:

Often cheaper if you have off-peak rates or solar power

Opportunity charging vs battery swap affects usage

Fuel Cost Comparison (Per Hour)
Fuel Type    Low    High
Electric    ~$1.50    ~$3.50
Propane    ~$1.80    ~$3.50

Assumptions: 8 hours/day, 2,000 hrs/yr per truck

Fuel Type    Annual Fuel Cost / Truck    10 Trucks Total
Electric    ~$4,000    ~$40,000
Propane    ~$5,000    ~$50,000
